The acid alkaline diet is becoming popular, yet innumerable people are unable to take advantage of the virtues of alkaline diet foods because of the fact that they are confused by common myths.

Myth: The Alkaline Diet Severely Restricts Your Food Choices

Fact: Notwithstanding popular belief, acid-forming foods do not need to be eliminated entirely, but they do {need} to be avoided. Most processed foods are particularly acidifying, and also exceptionally low in nutritional value. Ideally, these foods would be eliminated from your kitchen. But if total abstinence is too difficult, your best choice is to save these foods for an occasional treat.

Myth: You Need to Become a Vegan to Get Enough Alkaline Diet Foods

Fact: One of the essential principles of the alkaline diet is that a diet that is too high in protein makes the body too acidic. On the other hand, a moderate amount of protein is necessary for health.

The secret, consequently, is to get an adequate amount of protein, but no more. Professionals differ about how much protein is excessive, but a common guideline is for protein to constitute 15 percent of total caloric intake. In comparison, low-carb diets often require that protein constitute 30 percent of calories, or even higher.

Myth: If You Don’t Eat Meat or Dairy Products, Your Well-being Will Pay the Price

Fact: It’s not true that you need meat, dairy, and eggs to enjoy a nourishing diet. Vegans have a lower risk of hypertension and high cholesterol, and may also be at reduced risk for bone loss. They are also significantly less likely to be overweight or obese.

It’s true that meat contains protein, B12, and iron, while dairy foods also contain protein, and are an important source of calcium. But if you are firm in your determination to become a vegan, you can get those nutrients through a combination of the right plant foods and particular nutritional supplements.

Finally, the alkaline diet is not as hard to understand or rigorous as you may have believed, yet the advantages are great. Why not try eating more alkaline diet foods starting now, and see how good you feel!
